![]() ![]() I feel like there could have been something better. Like it just sat there and they climbed on it a little. The Atlanta set was a giant tree like sculpture which I think made it to the Broadway show. ![]() I mean that's a major plot point so idk how you fix that, but in 2016 it was weird. It's also a little creepy for a 17 year old to be hitting on a 13 year old girl the entire show. But you can't just stop the action, have an old man take a young girl out on a row boat in the middle of a lake to sing a slow song about a wheel while slowly rotating around. Tuck Everlasting deals with some heavy existential shit - live forever and never live or die but live a full life. The book never found out how to hit the emotional stuff while being accessible for the younger crowd. Terrance Mann did the best he could but his songs were cookie cutter at best. Two songs stand out: Everlasting and and Good Girl Winnie Foster. The lyrics and back and forth just fell flat. There was a patter song in the first act that wad neither clever or fast enough. Not every song has to be a hit, but there were too many lame ones. The songs ranged from competent to really bad. I saw Tuck Everlasting when it premiered here in Atlanta, not sure how much it changed but here are my thoughts. Matilda was still running, and that was/is a far superior show. I think why it flopped was that there are so many great family friendly shows on broadway, this couldn't compete.
